Statement from Senator Jessica Ramos on the One Year Anniversary of the October 7th Attack

“The anniversary of October 7 marks a year of profound loss, suffering, and grief felt by families and communities both here in New York and around the world. I stand alongside the Jewish and Palestinian communities in their pain and endless resilience. And I continue to call for the return of all hostages as well as a permanent bilateral ceasefire.

Our city thrives on diversity and compassion, and we have a responsibility to create a society of mutual prosperity and respect. We cannot allow hatred or discrimination — whether antisemitism, Islamophobia, or any other form of bigotry — to take root in our city.

I dare to dream that our city will be a beacon of coexistence for the world, where every person feels secure to practice their beliefs and express themselves without fear — but first, we must do no harm. Everyone deserves safety and every child deserves a future free of fear and violence.

Growing up and raising my own children in the most diverse neighborhood in the country, I know that coexistence is possible and that it enriches our lives. We foster a global peace when we stand up for human rights and advocate for bread not bombs.

May the memory of those we lost be a blessing, and may their legacy inspire us to build a more peaceful tomorrow.”
